I am currently teaching and accepting students for drum lessons at Collins Music Center - Richmond and River Pointe Church - RPC School of Rock . I've played the greater Houston area in many different bands for the past 23 years, mostly in variety cover bands. Some of the styles I've covered include modern rock, classic rock, country, funk, jazz, tejano, conjunto, blues, dance and christian/worship music. I am available for fill-in/sub gigs and depending on my schedule, I may be available for permanent work.

About Me

Gene "Gino" LunaDrummer & InstructorMy first instrument of choice was guitar, but this only lasted two or three weeks thanks to my dad. I still remember the day he brought home my first pair of drum sticks. They were the cool ones, you know red with the black tips. I wore them out on an old beat up snare drum I found in our closet. No snares, it didn't even have a bottom head, just a used pinstripe head on top. I was 13 years old when he finally bought me my first 4 piece drum set. The rest is history.I began as a self-taught musician until my junior year of high school. The high school band director needed a drummer to play in the jazz band, so he asked if I would be interested. Thanks to Mr. Al Sulak and Mr. Sean Williams I learned basic rudiments and began to read charts pretty quickly. I must have done something right along the way because I was invited back while attending college, to mentor and teach the drum-line.While attending college in the mid-90s, my family needed extra income to help with unexpected medical expenses, so I dropped out of school my sophomore year and began working for H & H Music Company in Sugar Land, Texas. Cool, now I have an opportunity to learn and talk about music instruments for a living. I went from sales rep to assistant manager pretty quickly. My plans were to work for a year or two and head back to school to finish my degree in music education. Ten years later Im still working there, married with a baby on the way, and H & H Music shut its doors. I had been inquiring about employment at Pro Mark Corporation, on and off since graduating high school, but no openings were ever available. How perfect would it be, after all this time, to finally work for the best stick and mallet maker in the world? I figured I'd give it a try I've got nothing to lose, right? So I filled out the online info, said a prayer, and within 24 hours I received the phone call. I interviewed, and was offered the job. My official position at Pro Mark was Stick Selector and Assistant in the warehouse. I enjoyed my job at Pro Mark, its such a great company to work for. Not only was I selecting sticks for major artists and drum corps endorsers, but I also got to work with great friends every day, which was awesome.After four years at Pro Mark it was time to move on to the next step in my life. I am now self employed as a drum instructor. I teach in a local retail music store twice a week and also offer in-home lessons. Being able to teach others what I love to do is a blessing; and I love all the time I get to spend with my wife and kids.
